Bethesda, after deploying the final version of patch 1.4 for its The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim role playing game, has released more details about the upcoming Creation Kit and the Skyrim Workshop, through which players can make and distribute mods for the title.

Skyrim is a massive game, with a huge variety of quests, adventures and things to do. Besides the content made by Bethesda, the game has received lots of new things from its users, who developed a variety of mods for the RPG.

We’ve already highlighted some of the best last year and Bethesda promised, at that time, to release a special Creation Kit that would help the modding process.

Now, it seems that the studio is finally ready to deploy the two systems in the near future, as a special video that highlights both of their features has been released.

“As we were building Skyrim and its tools, we made it a goal to try and keep the transition from our previous titles to Skyrim as smooth as possible for modders,” Ashley Cheng, Production Director of Skyrim said. “More importantly, we want to make it easier for more people to enjoy mods. So we teamed up with Valve and created the Skyrim Workshop. We couldn’t be more pleased with how it’s turning out. Mods are a big part of what makes our games special, so we urge everyone to try it out. We’re going to keep looking for ways to get mods to more people, and hopefully one day to our console audience.”

Besides creating the actual mods with the Creation Kit for their own pleasure, players can share them with others through the Skyrim Workshop.

“With Skyrim Workshop, you can browse and search for the latest or highest rated mods, subscribe to any that interest you, rate your favorites and post feedback. Once you’ve subscribed to some mods, start the Skyrim launcher and you’ll see your subscribed mods automatically download. The launcher will even check if a mod has been updated and grab the latest version.”

Bethesda promises that, depending on the feedback from users, it will make plenty of changes to the Creation Kit and the Workshop, in order to please gamers.

In the footage below, you can see what new mods can be made with the Creation Kit and then check out the extra features offered by the Skyrim Workshop, thanks to the infrastructure already set in place by Valve and its Steam digital distribution service. Sadly, there’s still no release date for the two systems, so intrepid modders will have to wait until they can tinker with Skyrim.
