Today, Skype announced a new flavor of their mobile client for Windows Phone 8 devices, meant to provide users with a much better experience while on the go, namely version 2.8.

The updated application release arrives on handsets with significant improvements to loading times and performance, as well as with various new features and bug fixes.

“In this release we’ve significantly improved the app start and resume performance – so you can quickly continue a conversation by moving smoothly between apps on your Windows Phone 8 device and Skype,” the company announced in a blog post.

Following the update, users will be able to return to Skype faster than before, when the app is in the back stack.

“If you open the app and then hit the start button or turn off the screen, pressing the back or power button now gets you back into the Skype app much more quickly. You’ll also see some general improvements to the start experience,” the company explains.

Additionally, the newest flavor of the mobile client brings updated Live Tile notifications, now showing only the number of unread conversations, and not the total number of unread messages.

Furthermore, the new app iteration brings Skype to more Windows Phone 8 users out there, including those living in South Korea, Skype announced.

Unfortunately, there still are a series of issues present in the application, including one related to calling, which results in users experiencing call drops in poor network areas. Additionally, it is also possible that calls won’t connect sometimes, when receiving incoming calls, the company explains.

The Skype application is available for both Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8 devices. Skype for Windows Phone 8 can be installed on all devices running under OS version 8.0.10211.204 and above.
