Symbian mobile phone users are already able to enjoy the capabilities of Skype on their handsets, via a beta version of the software, which was released last year, but now they can enhance that experience by downloading the new Skype 1.0 available for Symbian-based devices. The solution can be enjoyed both on Symbian S60 v3 and on Symbian S60 v5 handsets, featuring version 1.0.2 for the former and version 1.0.3 for the latter.

What the new version of the popular application brings around in terms of new features includes: - Notifications - Support for vibration notifications while in silent mode - Calling - Ability to use custom ring-tones - Calling - Ability to send touch tones when calling automated answering services - User interface - New tab to for initiating calls and SMS messages to arbitrary phone numbers

At the same time, the application includes a wide range of fixes, among which we can count one related to audio notifications that were not working when Skype was installed on removable storage, general improvements for issues that made Skype crash sometimes on login or logout, or made the application freeze on automatic sign-in.

In addition, there is a fix for the “component is built-in” error message which appeared during installation on some firmware versions, one that prevented users from calling phones under subscription when user had 0 credits, and the company also notes that the overall stability of the software solution has been improved.

While the new version of the Skype application for Symbian does come with the aforementioned fixes and improvements, it seems that there are still a series of issues that weren't resolved just yet, and which range from general problems to issues related to a single device. All in all, the new release shows that the company is working on enhancing the experience users receive from its software solution on Symbian phones, and future iterations will certainly fix some of the problems.
