Developers Obsidian Entertainment and Allods Team have released some brand new screenshots from their upcoming free-to-play science fiction / fantasy hybrid massively multiplayer online role-playing game Skyforge, revealing one of the game's areas, the Lanber Forest.

"The Lanber Forest is a picturesque, bright corner of Aelion. An oasis of pristine nature, hidden away from the frenzied rhythm of the Capital city and the hum of factories. It seems quiet and peaceful here, but that peace is an illusion," the official description reads.

The screenshots depict a beautifully rendered game world, with the scenery dominated by a colorful deciduous forest biome that should be teeming with life, but instead harbors an evil presence.

"The farms are empty, as though the farmers simply walked away from their fields. The town of Kyris is also quiet. Once a popular, bustling place, for trade and festivities, it’s no longer filled with the carefree laughter of fairgoers or the rhythmic thud of forging hammers. You will not meet a single traveler in the town, or on a forest trail. Clear skies and the pastoral landscape are only a mask for the evil that lurks in the Lanber Forest," the blurb continues.

At the root of the evil in Lanber Forest lies a power-hungry traitorous god, Nerion, who betrayed and sold his people in order to forge an alliance with the Mantide army, condemning his followers to horrible deaths and even more horrific lives, in the controlling grasp of the insectoid monsters.

The god's castle towers over the forest, on the crests of a massive mountain range, but instead of being a symbol of Nerion's protection, it only serves to remind everyone of the god's shameful betrayal.

"The Defenders of Aelion have sent many brave warriors to the Lanber Forest. However, the vanguard of the divine forces need help. Their primary task is to stop the treacherous god, but what is also important is to save people: to provide food and safety, rid them of the invaders, and to protect them from the sickness and lawlessness that accompany conflict. The lands of the Lanber Forest are waiting for a savior!," the description goes on.

And this is where you come in. Skyforge challenges you to become not just a legendary adventurer, but also a full-fledged god, wielding untold power in order to shape the destiny of the land. For now, it is unclear exactly how the godly powers will translate into actual gameplay, as the game was just announced this April.

Gamers who are interested in joining Skyforge beta test, when it becomes available, can sign up for free on the game's website. For the time being, there is no prospective release window offered by the developer, but we'll come back with more information as soon as it becomes available.
