Skyfire announced the launch of the latest version of its browser designed for Windows Mobile and Symbian, version 0.9. Even with the new version, the browser is still officially Beta, but it is able to deliver a new FriendFeed-like starting portal, which is meant to offer users direct access to RSS feeds, as well as to Facebook and Twitter accounts.

According to the company, the new Skyfire version 0.9 is also able to allow users to update their Twitter or Facebook status directly from the browser. Other features of the new version include preloaded feeds from Digg, ESPN, Google News, Hulu, YouTube and Yahoo! News, and all of them are able to update in real time.

Another interesting feature of the new version of the browser is the media connection. The browser comes with the capability of launching the media player for formats such as Windows Streaming audio, enabling users to stream radio feeds in the background while also surfing over the Internet.

The Skyfire 0.9 Beta for Windows Mobile is able to work on all regular screen resolutions from 240 x 240 pixels up to 800 x 480 pixels, and it also supports a wider range of mobile phones. The Symbian browser comes with a simplified install and support for the 352 x 416 pixel resolution featured by the Nokia N80 device.

The home page of the new version of the browser comes tabbed, offering easier access to Search, Bookmarks, and History functions. In addition, the feeds displayed here are updated periodically and sorted chronologically, and users are also allowed to add RSS feeds and filter the content on the home page.

Early impressions of the browser show it as being a rather slow application. Undoubtedly, Skyfire 0.9 Beta is a stable version, yet there are still some issues that will probably be addressed in the future releases. The new version is available for download on Softpedia as well, via this link.
