Lab Zero Games and Autumn Games are finally ready to bring Skullgirls to the PS4 and PS Vita platforms, so expect the cartoonish fighting game to become available sometime this summer.

The game went through some hurdles due to a change in publishers at the end of 2013, but since then it's been alive and kicking, getting new content and looking to an even brighter future soon.

The revised edition, dubbed Skullgirls 2nd Encore, will come with a slew of new features exclusive to Sony's consoles, which the developer detailed on its website.

The fans demanded and the developers provided: Skullgirls 2nd Encore's story modes will be fully voice-acted, bringing the colorful anime characters to life even more than before.

Players will be able to undergo Challenges, squaring off against opponents with various unique battle conditions in place, in order to test their skill and determination.

The Challenges won't be the only things ramping up the game's difficulty for seasoned players, as the new Trials will test their ability to pull off impressive combos. The Trials are also meant to allow gamers to learn combos more easily and more intuitively than ever, being built on a button-by-button instructional system.

Even more exciting challenges

The final way to test your mettle in the upcoming Skullgirls 2nd Encore will be the Survival Mode, where you will have to face off against an endless stream of combatants and see how long you can last. Players will be able to regain lost health between rounds, based on their fighting performance.

Evidently, Skullgirls 2nd Encore will ship with a full Platinum trophy set, including a total of 43 trophies, some returning, some brand new, adjusted based on player feedback.

Furthermore, the fighting video game will be cross-play compatible across the entire PlayStation family, and will support PS3 fight sticks on the PS4. The PS4 and PS Vita editions will also be cross-buy enabled between the two platforms.

The new features will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita edition of Skullgirls, but the developers stated their intent to publish them as DLC for the PC version of the fighting game.
