The condition is widespread in those younger than 40

I just came across a very interesting study, showing that the incidence of skin cancer has drastically increased in people younger than 40, and especially in young women. I find this to be unsettling to say the least, since allegedly everyone sees the light of day for similar periods of time each day.

The study appears in the April issue of the medical journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings, and was put together by researchers at the Mayo Clinic. The paper shows that women in their 20s and 30s are the worst-hit by this increased incidence, Science Blog reports.

In young women, the condition is now 800 percent more widespread than in the past decade, while young men today are 400 percent more likely to suffer from the condition. The percentages shift with age, as older men are more prone to developing melanoma than older women.

Though I know not many people want to hear this, it's my duty to tell you that the professional opinion of these experts is that indoor tanning beds are responsible for this high incidence of melanoma in young women.
