Autodesk, the company behind the highly-acclaimed AutoCAD software and a leader in 2D and 3D architecture design software has just announced the availability of its Autodesk SketchBook Mobile for Android.

Autodesk SketchBook Mobile is a painting and drawing app that offers a full set of sketching tools and features the same paint engine as the desktop version.

“The popularity of the SketchBook products has shown that people want to generate creative content on their mobile devices, not simply consume it,” said Samir Hanna, vice president of Consumer Products at Autodesk.

“We’re excited to offer SketchBook Mobile to the millions of consumers around the world who rely on mobile devices running on the Android platform,” added Hanna, vice president at Autodesk.

Autodesk's Android application targets designers, graphic artists and students, as well as hobbyists who are looking for a simple and fast way to capture their ideas as sketches, even when they're on the go.

Initially launched in 2009 for iPhone, SketchBook Mobile for Android opens up new bussines oportunities for the company, seeing how the iOS version has millions of downloads.

Some of the sketching tools offered by the application include: high-quality digital pencils, pens, markers and airbrushes, as well as an artist-friendly, gesture-based user interface.

Furthemore, Autodesk has also announced that it has chosen finalists in its digital art contest for users of the Autodesk SketchBook digital painting and drawing products.

The winner will be announced on December 21, 2010, but more information can be found on the developer's website.

Autodesk SketchBook Mobile for Android can be downloaded now from Android Market for $2.99.

Users who want to try the application before paying for it can download a free Autodesk SketchBook Mobile Express for Android application. Both apps require smartphones running Android 2.1 and above.
