The Kickstarter project is a great way to encourage developers to make Linux games, if we look at the track record so far. Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a first-person shooter developed the Big Robot studio. According to the developer, it's a game of desperate survival in a world where mechanical aristocrats hunt humans for sport.
The heart of the game is something called The British Countryside Generator, a procedural engine that ensures that every player who starts the game will be able to enjoy a unique experience.
The game takes place on a few islands and they can be generated in a matter of seconds, using highly detailed environments.
Even though it's a first-person shooter, the game is not about fighting, at least most of the time. The goal of the player is to survive, and this can only be achieved if Sir, You Are Being Hunted is treated more as a puzzle, than a shooter.
Sir, You Are Being Hunted includes many features, such as the procedural tools to generate, save, and explore your own landscapes, open-ended gameplay, unique generative soundtrack, no DRM (digital rights management), and of course a Linux version.
The money gathered with Kickstarter will help the team enlist the services of a full-time artist, which will provide the art and the animation required for such a large project.
The game will only provide a single-player experience, with no multiplayer included. Big Robot studio has managed to get the money they were looking for, with time to spare. This means there is still time to back the project, if you are interested.
