British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, his representative has confirmed for the media. Luckily, the diagnosis has been made while the disease is still in early stages, which means chances for full and rapid recovery are looking very good. As a matter of fact, Webber is determined that the show will go on, his friends say for The Telegraph.

“Andrew’s condition is in its very early stages. He is now undergoing treatment and expects to be fully back at work before the end of the year.” Webber’s spokesperson has told the press. Apparently, the producer is determined to fight the disease so that he can be back to his busy schedule as quickly as possible. “The show WILL go on.” he reportedly told his friends about his determination to see this through, as reported by the aforementioned publication.

Statistically speaking, Webber’s chances for a full recovery are excellent, given that doctors were able to make the diagnosis so early on, The Telegraph writes. “Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men in Britain, with 35,000 being diagnosed in the country annually, most being over 50 years of age. Of those, more than 10,000 – just over a third – die as a result of the disease every year.” the publication writes.

Numbers released by The Prostate Cancer Charity show that early diagnosis and, implicitly, treatment, considerably improve chances of survival. The same applies to Sir Webber, it is being said. Speaking of being determined to return to his busy schedule, this also includes a sequel to his legendary “Phantom of the Opera,” called “Love Never Dies,” which is to debut on the London stage this November.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s impressive resume also includes “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Evita,” “Cats,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and countless music scores for big Hollywood productions.
