After half of building vanished under the resort, Disney asks guests back

Disney World has reopened one of its resorts even after a sinkhole opened near it, swallowing a large part of a building.

As I mentioned yesterday, experts assessed that half of a residential complex vanished under the Summer Bay resort in Florida.

News has emerged that the residents only had 10 to 15 minutes to leave the collapsing structure. The building is equipped with 24 housing units.

It appears that the resort is built on a limestone foundation, but the incident is not common.

“There’s no reason to believe that it’s going to expand or it’s going to grow,” Disney officials have stated, as relayed by the Inquisitr.

After reporting multiple cancellations at the 4,500-guest resort, the company is asking guests to come back, even after the evacuations that followed the depression forming on the nearby property.

[Update: August 14, 2013] The Florida resort villa is located near Disney World, thanks to our readers for bringing it to my attention and helping me correct the error.
