As some of you may remember, back in June, we've offered you some info in the Kno dual-screen tablets, designed specifically for the educational environment, and now, as 2010 is about to end, it seems that both the dual-screen Kno model and a single-screen one have started shipping.

Kno, short for knowledge, is a unique 14.1 touch-screen tablet that blends textbooks, course materials, note-taking, web access, educational applications, digital media, sharing and more into a more powerful and engaging educational experience.

Kno also offers a digital bookstore, which includes tens of thousands of textbooks from most of the major publishers, with new books being added regularly, and, instead of the usual Android OS, run a seriously customized version of Linux.

Regardless of the model, the Kno tablet's display delivers 1440-by-900 WXGA pixel resolution at HD resolutions, accompanied by an Nvidia Tegra T200 series CPU (based on a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore) reaching a speed of up to 1.0 GHz and accompanied by 512 MB on-board memory and eigher 16 GB or 32 GB flash memory (single and dual screen), for storage purposes.

The tablets also sport WiFi and Bluetooth modules, a 3-axis accelerometer, as well as an ambient light sensor, while the built-in 50.6-watt-hour rechargeable lithium-polymer battery delivers up to 6 hours of normal campus use.

Naturally, beside eBook reading and browsing, the Tegra 2 – powered tablets also support HD media playback in several formats, as well as music playback.

"Since launch, we have been encouraged by the positive response to Kno and we are excited to deliver the first units to our most passionate customers – students and educators,” said Osman Rashid, CEO and co-Founder of Kno, Inc, adding that “over the next month, we plan to deliver units to pre-order customers and work closely with them to ensure a great user experience."

Even if they target the educational segment, the Kno tablets aren't exactly cheap, selling for $599 and $899, respectively, but even if you're genuinely interested in getting one, you shouldn't get your hopes too high, since the Kno tablet is in limited quantity and is now available by invitation only.
