When it comes to reasonably capable systems, especially those with support for DirectX 11 graphics, one does not feel compelled to assume that the desktop they build will actually be very compact, and some even prefer it when their casings are of colossal proportions. Mostly this is because competent parts, especially video cards, often end up taking up a lot of space. This makes the more competent adapters unusable in PCs of smaller form factors. Wishing to at least partially remedy this situation, PowerColor came up with the ATI Radeon HD 5770 Single Slot.

As its name implies, the card is a Radeon HD 5770 video controller whose cooler was swapped for a thinner one that only takes up one PCI slot. Granted, the card does not use a low profile form factor, so it probably won't fit into every HTPC (home-theater PC) out there, but other SFF (small form factor) desktops will still have an advantage.

As far as specifications go, the PowerColor HD 5770 Single Slot has the GPU running at a speed of 850 MHz, as well as 1GB of GDDR5 VRAM with an interface of 128 bits. The memory clock is of 4,800 MHz. Not only that, but the device even boasts 800 stream processors of its very own. Finally, the board supports CrossFireX and communicates with monitors via DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI outputs.

"The HD5770 single slot design offers a unique option in performance for our product lineup," says Ted Chen, CEO of TUL Corporation. "We can fulfill the endless desire for performance and multi-function when space is a premium."

Unfortunately, the price tag of this upcoming product has not been disclosed. Still, with mass availability scheduled for August 13, it seems that, at least, end-users won't have to wait overly long before this final bit of information becomes available.
