Soon-to-be ex-husband Nas Jones will not pay for expenses

In April this year, People magazine confirmed that Kelis and Nas Jones were divorcing after almost four happy years and despite the fact that Kelis was heavily pregnant at the moment the announcement was made. Initially, the rapper denied Kelis all kinds of support, which has made her run into serious debt – to the point that she’s broke now, as TMZ can reveal.

Kelis is due next month but she’s having really big problems with keeping everything running smoothly, especially since Nas conveniently shunned all paternal obligations, like paying for pre-natal care or baby things, the singer says in court papers just filed and obtained by the aforementioned source. Consequently, Kelis wants the court to order her soon-to-be ex-husband to pay for her expenses, since she no longer has any money in the bank.

“Kelis is asking the judge to order Nas to pay spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one-half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child’s birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs and other baby supplies.” TMZ says of Kelis’ requests made in court papers. The singer claims she is entitled to continue living the lifestyle she has lived for the past years – and even hints that Nas took most of her jewelry items, which she now wants back. For the record, the couple once had residence in five homes and only flew first class or by private jet.

“My survival is based on [Nas’] will at this time. If he does not want to pay for an expense, it does not get paid.” Kelis states in the documents. She then adds, “There were many expensive pieces [of jewelry] such as a princess-cut diamond tennis bracelet that was recently appraised for $190,000. My engagement ring is an approximately nine-carat cushion-cut diamond solitaire. I have numerous watches... such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller and Chopard.”

Kelis and Nas began dating in 2003 and were married in an outrageous (and very lavish) ceremony two years later, in 2005. Since the divorce, Nas has refused to make any comment on the proceedings. Kelis’ attorney, Laura Wasser, recently told the media that they had urged Nas to pay up for the child the singer was carrying, but he failed to respond to this in any way.
