Another surprise at this year's GC

It seems rather strange to hear that a fifth game in a series is announced, even though the fourth was not yet released in English speaking countries. The even stranger thing is the fact that the game was not announced by the same company that's working on the fourth iteration, which makes us wonder if these last two versions will be related in any way. Probably not, but I don't really care as long as they will be quality titles, just like the original Simon the Sorcerer was in the good old days.

This surprise announcement was made during this year's Games Convention in Leipzig by The Games Company. Simon the Sorcerer 5 (working title) will send adventurers to a futuristic world in which they experience a turbulent journey through history in order to help Simon recover his memory. In this imaginative alternative universe fans will meet once again many old acquaintances from earlier games in the series and encounter fantastic vehicles like Steam-powered space ships.

Also, an innovative puzzle design and approach to the genre promises to bring a really challenging experience even for skilled adventurers. However, you should expect to get the humor of classic games, as well as a story filled with twists and turns, perfect for such a title.

Markus Malti, CEO at The Games Company, sees enormous potential in the new game: "Within the community the brand Simon the Sorcerer enjoys a similarly high reputation as the good old Lucas Arts adventures. With Simon the Sorcerer 5 we do not only want to fulfill but exceed the expectations of the genre fans. We will achieve this with innovative puzzle elements and a unique, fresh game world."

Unfortunately the company did not release any screenshots or artwork from the game, so we don't know if we should be excited or not. However, seeing how slow Playlogic is moving with the fourth iteration of the game, we wouldn't be surprised to see Simon the Sorcerer 5 released before it. And that would be very, very interesting!
