An updated version of the Deep Zoom Composer for Silverlight 2 is available for download since the end of the past week. Microsoft's Janete Kirupa revealed that the focus of the update was to deliver fixes for the bugs reported via user feedback. At the same time, the update, which went live on December 19, fixes what Kirupa referred to as major shortcomings in the solution.

In this regard, in addition to the optimizations and tweaks delivered by Microsoft to the Deep Zoom Composer bits, the Redmond company has also updated the documentation available with the software. The Deep Zoom Composer User Guide, put together by Christopher Lohr, content publishing manager, Expression Studio, and his team is included in the update.

“One of the areas we have made and continue to make investments in is memory usage. Dealing with many high-resolution images on an interactive design surface is a challenge, but Deep Zoom Composer should now allow you to compose more images than you could in the past. We aren’t quite there yet, so expect future releases to address them in greater detail,” Kirupa added.

The latest version of Deep Zoom Composer also comes to the table with updated Seadragon Ajax templates. While the previous release bridged Deep Zoom Composer with Seadragon Ajax, the current bits no longer make it necessary for users to upload their JS libraries to the server along with the digital images, as the libraries have been deferred to the Live Labs team’s seadragon.com server.

“For the past few releases, we made some major changes to our project structure and how the DZPRJ files are written and opened. Unfortunately, for some of you, those changes meant your older projects were no longer opening. We have tried to fix as many of those incompatibilities in this release, and a big thanks to all of you who have have e-mailed us your projects for testing,” Kirupa explained.
