On April 10, the news broke that one circus elephant named Carol was injured in a drive-by shooting in Mississippi.

An online petition started by Sarah Kavanagh is looking to convince Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey that Carol should be retired and sent to an animal sanctuary.

By the looks of it, the elephant's owners have thus far only agreed to give Carol a several-weeks-long vacation in Springfield, Missouri.

Neither Sarah nor the people who signed her petition believe that this vacation is what Carol needs.

“Retire Carol who was shot in a drive-by. Anyone who cares about animals knows that you shouldn't keep an elephant who was just shot on the road just to keep making money,” the petition reads.

Those wishing to sign it and help retire Carol can do so here.
