Sigma has surprised everyone with the announcement of its latest dp Quattro compact camera series, mostly due to the unusual design of all three models.

While camera performance remains to be evaluated as soon as the first test models are shipped to reviewers, at a presentation held by company officials at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show and recorded by Macotakara, Mr. Kazuto Yamaki, CEO of Sigma Corporation, revealed that the 19mm f/2.8 lens found on the dp1 Quattro model would feature a completely new design.

Furthermore, the dp2 Quattro and dp3 Quattro cameras will come with a similar lens design as the current Sigma Merrill digital cameras.

All three Sigma dp Quattro series compact cameras feature a newly developed Foveon X3 Quattrom CMOS image sensor that uses vertical color separation technology instead of the usual horizontal type, to deliver outstanding image quality even in low-light conditions. Sigma is yet to announce pricing and availability for any of the three dp Quattro camera models.
