Nippon optics manufacturer Sigma is mostly known for its high-quality lenses that rival and sometimes surpass the more popular Canon and Nikon optics.

Besides its professional-grade lenses, the company also manufactures its own DSLR and compact digital cameras as well as flashes and other photo accessories.

In addition to that, Sigma also developed its own image sensor called Foveon, which is currently used in its SD digital SLR cameras. According to the latest rumors, it will also be used to power Sigma's first mirrorless camera that will follow a MFT model and will be available sometime next year.

To address some issues and improve camera functionality, Sigma has just announced the availability of a new firmware upgrade for its SD1 and SD1 Merrill digital SLRs. The new versions for both cameras come with the same fixes and improvements meant to optimize workflow and deliver an improved user experience.

With the introduction of this new build, Sigma SD1 and SD1 Merrill will now have improved quick preview display speed after capturing RAW or RAW+JPEG photos.

Moreover, the new firmware fixes an issue that made the Auto Bracketing function not to work properly when shooting in manual exposure mode.

Please keep in mind that this update can be applied to any SD1 camera that has firmware v1.12 or lower. Also, for the SD1 Merrill, the update applies to any camera that has v1.07 or lower. If your camera already has the 1.13 or 1.08 build you don't need this update.

Furthermore, once you update to the latest version, you will have to install Sigma Photo Pro 5.5 or later in order to be able to develop your RAW images.

If you own any of these cameras you can download Sigma SD1 Digital Camera Firmware v1.13 or download Sigma SD1 Merrill Digital Camera Firmware v1.08 right away from our website.
