2K Games, as the publisher, and Firaxis, as the developer, have announced that Sid Meier's Pirates! will be ported to the Nintendo Wii. The game is being worked on by 2K China and is slated for launch at some point during the fall. The two companies plan to keep all the features, which made the original a superb experience while ensuring the game is easy to play using the motion tracking control system of the Nintendo home console.

Sid Meier's Pirates! for the Nintendo Wii is set to add character and ship customization options allowing the player to personalize their in-game experience, as well as adding two whole new minigames, one called Bombardment and built around the siege of enemy cities and the other called Lock Picking, used as the main character aims to break into well fortified locations. The three minigames from the original release, Dancing, Swordfighting and Ship Combat, will also be included.

The new version of Pirates will allow the player to jump right into the Caribbean archipelago as it existed in the middle of the XVII century. The main character is a swashbuckler out to make his name but only starts with a little dingy ship and little money to his name. In order to progress, he needs to recruit a crew, raid ships, trade in cities, get bigger vessels with bigger cannons to finally confront the dreaded Marquis de la Montalban.

Sid Meier, who is now the director of the creative development at Firaxis Games and put together the original Pirates, stated, “We are big fans of the Wii and think Pirates! is the perfect game to bring to that platform. We’re sure Wii fans will enjoy the timeless adventure of being a pirate captain on the high seas as much as all of our other fans have!”
