With all the various digital broadcast standards that are used throughout the world, it becomes increasingly difficult for manufacturers to develop solutions that suit all these markets, but Siano promises to do just that with its SMS2270 chip that supports the ISDB-T standard used in Latin America and Japan as well as DVB-T.

Built in order to deliver clear reception even in the toughest of conditions, the integrated RF tuner and demodulator single chip from Siano features built-in support for USB 2.0 as well as an MPEG2 Transport Stream interface.

What this means is that Siano's chip can be used inside a wide array of products, from TV tuner cards to TV sets and set-top boxes.

As stated earlier, although Latin America is the primary market for this chip, as a wide range of countries are in the process of transitioning from analog to digital TV, the SMS2270 also supports the DVB-T format, which is deployed in Europe, Australia, and some places in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, making it a truly global solution.

"Most countries in Latin America are pushing to accelerate the transition from analog to digital TV," said Alexandre Goldman, Telecom Research and Consulting Manager, Brazil for IDC.

"A necessary condition for that is the availability of affordable digital TV sets and set-top boxes that can be used by the mass population in these countries.

Siano's new receiver products support the increasing demand for a high quality, cost-effective front end solution," concluded Mr. Goldman.

According to the company, the SMS2270 is available in samples to select customers, and is already in the development stage with a few customers developing electronic products using the new solution, although Siano didn't mention who this customers happen to be or when will the very first solutions to use the SMS2270 will make their appearance on the market.
