SiS672 featured inside Pegatron's nettop

Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) has just announced the release of its most recent SiS672/96/307DV chipset, designed to provide support for the latest low-power Intel Atom 230 processor. When combined with the aforementioned processor, SiS' solution is capable of delivering support to system builders that are looking for new and ultra-slim designs for their upcoming computer systems. Such is the case with Pegatron, which has recently developed the Ultra Slim Atom NetTop project, a low-power computer system that is based on the SiS chipset and Intel Atom combo.

According to a recent press release issued by the chip maker, the SiS672/96/307DV has been designed to deliver support for one of Intel's most successful processors to date, including the latest Atom 230 CPU. The design and specifications of the chipset can enable system vendors to design and develop machines that boast an ultra-slim form factor and consume less power than similar devices in their respective category. Such is the case with Pegatron's newly designed nettop, which provides performance in a compact form factor that utilizes a passive cooling system.

Aside from the Atom 230 processor, the Pegatron nettop also takes advantage of the integrated SiS Mirage 3 graphics chip, which is said to deliver support for 2D and 3D applications, enabling users to view high-quality videos on their low-power system. In terms of power consumption, this SiS-enabled nettop from Pegatron is said to require less than 22 Watts of power, making it an affordable and energy-saving design.

Additional features of the Pegatron nettop include support for SATA-based storage, six USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and high-quality audio. The system can support a maximum of 2GB of memory and is expected to run a flavor of Microsoft's Windows, although the exact version is yet to be confirmed.
