14 DAY TRIAL // SiS announced that computers from Tsinghua Tongfang that are intended mostly for the Chinese market are coming on the market equipped with the SiS671 chipset. In order to make the most of the high sales summer period, the two hardware manufacturers and vendors decided to reduce the price of the S series, T series, and A series desktop computers. According to a SiS press release concerning this event, the S8360 and S8160 computers based on the SiS671 chipset are intended as desktop systems aimed to become the most popular home multimedia center on the Chinese market.
These computers come with Intel's Celeron 420 processor and use the LightScribe technology, combined with a 22 inch widescreen LCD monitor for a high quality multimedia experience at a reasonable price. Computers from the T series, the T5160 and T5150 desktop PCs are aimed at the educational market segment, being equipped with Intel's Celeron processor and the integrated graphics solution Mirage 3. Also they come with an already installed on-line educational program that should "allow students to take courses through Internet".
The A300 and A210 desktop computers are targeted at business users, offices and enterprises and they provide "user friendly functions to enormously increase the working efficiency of the users". The SiS671 Northbridge chipset is backed up by the SiS968 Southbridge chipset and this assembly supports Intel processors like Core 2 Duo, Pentium 4 and Celeron, which use the 800MHz, 667MHz and 533MHz frontside bus. This SiS made chipset also supports single channel DDR2 memory modules running at a clock speed of 667MHz.
The integrated in the chipset graphics solution Mirage 3 allows computers equipped with the SiS671 chipset to display high quality images optimized for LCD monitors. For users that need a more advanced graphics solution, there is the possibility of an upgrade by adding a discrete graphics card that supports the PCI Express interfaces. Among other features, the SiS671 chipset includes an embedded High Definition Audio circuit that is capable of delivering high performance and quality sound effects. The connectivity issues are addressed by the multi mode 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet adapter that allows for high speed networking.
