The market for all-in-one computer systems has increased significantly in the recent past months, a trend that was enabled by the impressive popularity of Intel's low-power Atom platform. This has enabled PC makers to develop and roll out systems that are based on said platform, which offers the basics in computing performance, but can power slimmer and lower-power PCs, such as the new All-in-One PC from Shuttle. The company has just rolled out the new all-in-one X5000TA touchscreen nettop, which is essentially the European version of the previously released Shuttle X50.

“Compact, power-saving All-in-One-PCs open up new and interesting application areas whether as a second PC for fast internet access, as part of a home automation system, for IP/videotelephony or for the next generation to obtain their first computer experiences,” says Tom Seiffert, head of Marketing and PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. “The possibilities for these devices are also becoming increasingly apparent in the business sector; for instance information can be displayed at the POS and finger-based or stylus inputs can be made.”

As far as technical specifications go, the new X 5000TA is designed using a 15.6-inch 1366 by 768 touchscreen and is powered by the Atom 330 processor and no less than 1GB of memory. Clearly not designed for performance but as a tool that allows users to easily connect to the Internet, the X 5000TA comes with a 160GB hard drive, a 1.3MP webcam, five USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi b/g/n, VGA Out and a 6-channel audio output. Additionally, the company has enabled the system to run Microsoft's Windows Vista Basic operating system.

The X 5000TA is just 3.6cm thick and comes with a pair of stereo speakers, a VESA mount on the rear and a foldable anti-slip stand. Price-wise, the system is already available in Europe with an MSRP of €499 ($651).
