Shuttle, a leading designer and manufacturer of small form computer systems, has announced today the introduction of its first VIA Nano-based line of PCs, featuring two new models, the XS29 and the XS29F. The company's new Embedded Slim series will take advantage of the performance and power consumption features of VIA's Nano platform, providing the end-user with an energy-efficient computing experience. According to Shuttle, the new series is slated for public debut at the upcoming Computex show in Taipei, Taiwan.

“Consumers have long been looking for solutions that offer the best balance of compact, stylish design and functionality. It’s even better with power efficient feature. Shuttle has dedicated to innovation following this concept and launched slim PCs in 2008 for the first time,” said David Yu, chairman of Shuttle Inc. “This year, we reached a new milestone by rolling out the XS29 series and more embedded slim PCs which adapt VIA’s processors of powerful performance and energy efficiency.”

Specifically designed to meet the requirements of Internet and mainstream computer users, the new series of Shuttle's VIA-powered SFF PCs takes advantage of the performances and reduced power specifications of VIA's Nano processors. Each of the two models has been designed for a different user, with the XS29 being based on the Nano L series of processors, and the XS29F featuring the VIA Nano U series. The XS29 is designed for better performance, while the XS29F comes with a fanless design and is meant to deliver a reduced power consumption and improved thermal management.

Given their low-power specifications, these new systems from Shuttle seem set to provide nettop users with an alternative to all the Intel-based systems on the market. They should offer similar performance and even a choice for a low-power HTPC. Unfortunately, the company hasn't yet detailed the pricing and availability of its latest systems, though it did say that they would be on display at Computex in June.
