After consulting with representatives from the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, in New York City, officials at NASA decided to fly the space shuttle Enterprise out to the Big Apple today, April 27.

The test orbiter is already installed on the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft 905, which is currently parked on the runway at Washington Dulles International Airport, in Virginia. The upcoming flight is bound for the John F. Kennedy International Airport, in NYC.

The flight is scheduled to occur between 9:30 am and 11:30 am EDT (1330 and 1530 GMT). The US Federal Aviation Administration (FDA) says that SCA 905 will carry Enterprise over a variety of landmarks before landing, including the Statue of Liberty and the Intrepid Museum.

Previously housed at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia, the test shuttle recently cleared its former exhibition space. The spot is now occupied by the shuttle Discovery, recently delivered from Florida aboard the same SCA.
