The online sports worlds will soon welcome a new member to their family, since Outspark is closer than ever to release its latest game, Project Powder. This newest addition to the company's Virtual Playground promises to offer a true snowboarding experience to everybody who tries it. In even better news, the open beta for the game has just started, which means that you can go and download Project Powder from its official website right now.

The game features 33 monster courses (with 10 available exclusively for the open beta stage) and 3 different game modes that can be played by up to eight players. The developers promise hundreds of ways to customize your characters - from snowboards to clothing and accessories, as well as dozens of unlockable tricks you'll have to master in order to keep improving your ratings.

"Project Powder utilizes all of the benefits of online gaming to make an extreme sport a community experience," said Susan Choe, Outspark CEO and founder. "Our overarching goal is to expand our free-to-play Virtual Playground into a diverse entertainment destination, and Project Powder is a great addition to our game portfolio."

The story of Project Powder is quite interesting: Earth was devastated by global warming, polar ice caps have melted and winter no longer exists, meaning that winter sports and winter-related activities ceased to exist, too. A new technology was invented - something called Post Gate - which uses wormhole theory to allow people to travel to various other planets and play in powder again. Although these planets have a lower gravitational pull (therefore, extra tricks and rides are possible), I am completely sure they could've used synthetic snow instead. It would've been easier than creating a Stargate-like device to get to have some fun in the snow, right? Anyway... it doesn't matter too much. Just jump on the board and skate on!
