A brand-new recycling facility is expected to soon open in New York City. Information shared with the public says that, when up and running at full capacity, the Sims Municipal Recycling Facility will tackle some 50,000 tons of waste on a yearly basis.

According to Environmental Leader, it will be able to handle anything from discarded bits and pieces of metal to plastic and glass.

What's interesting is that, apart from keeping tons of waste from ending up in landfills, the plant will also help reduce carbon emissions and yield noteworthy financial benefits.

This is because NYC will no longer have to spend loads of time and money on transporting garbage to various processing facilities located out of state.

All in all, it is estimated that the Sims Municipal Recycling Plant will displace about 150,000 yearly truck trips, the same source tells us.

The plant will sit at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal. The precise opening date is yet to be made public.
