The Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has announced that Shinji Mikami, the man behind the success of the Resident Evil series, and Grasshoper Manufacture, lead by Suda51, are working on a new project called Shadow of the Damned that will be published by Electronic Arts.

Famitsu refers to the game as “Shadow of the DAMNED” and the main protagonist will be a demon killer who will presumably face off against hordes of creatures coming from the Underworld.

It seems that the main characters also uses a motorcycle, which might mean vehicle based sections where demons are killed using the vehicle as a battering ram.

The perspective seems to be similar to that seen in Resident Evil 4 and players will probably get to interact with other character during the game, maybe in a manner similar to Resident Evil 5.

It's not clear whether the developers are aiming for a quick moving action titles where the combat is essential and the tactics matter the most or whether exploration will be the central element of the experience.

It seems that Shadow of the Damned will be released on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and on the PlayStation 3 from Sony with a date set for summer next year.

What makes Shadow of the Damned an interesting project is the collaboration between Shinji Mikami and Suda51, two of the most celebrated Japanese video games designers of the moment.

Mikami is best known for working on the various installments of Resident Evil but he also has experiences with other titles like: Steel Battalion, P.N. 03, killer 7, God Hand and the upcoming Vanquish.

Suda 51, real name Goichi, is the Chief Executive of the Grasshopper Manufacture studios and has worked on the No More Heroes series, which was launched for the Nintendo Wii and offers some of the best sword mechanics on the platform, and on Flower, Sun and Rain: Unending Paradise and Fatal Frame IV.
