Sherri Shepherd cries, Jenny McCarthy teases new show in The View segment explaining their imminent departure

Almost two weeks ago, Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy announced on Twitter that they were out of ABC’s The View and that this current season would be their last. They didn’t offer a reason for the departure, but Jenny made sure to make it sound as if she was leaving out of solidarity with Sherri, who was perhaps being treated unfairly by being fired.

Below is a video in which they finally confirm the departure: it’s a segment from the most recent The View show.

The two co-hosts still don’t say anything about whether they’d been let go or if the decision to leave was their own, but it’s clear that Sherri would have rather things didn’t play out this way. She speaks after Jenny, who promotes her new show (but of which she doesn’t offer more details), and she has a serious problem keeping her emotions in check.

Jenny, on the other hand, the most recent addition to the panel, tries her best to play it cool, speaking about how grateful she is for the chance offered and how she’s looking forward to starting on her new job which, she says, will see her do what she does best (i.e. talk) without interrupting anyone else.

This feels like she’s saying she’s getting her own talk show, but we’ll find out more about that in a couple of weeks’ time, when she’ll be making an official announcement about her new job.

When Sherri’s turn came up, it didn’t take long for her to unwillingly turn on the waterworks.

“I will forever be grateful to Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie for taking a chance on an actress and a comedian and making me learn things and step out of my comfort zone, for giving me a chance when everybody said that I shouldn't be at this table,” she says.

“I want to say I have friendships and sisterhoods for life at this table,” Shepherd said. “Elisabeth Hasselbeck is my sister for life, Joy Behar is my sister for life, [McCarthy] you are my sister, you are my friend [and] have been a mentor to me, I love you so much. Whoopi Goldberg because Whoopi Goldberg has had my back even when I didn't appreciate it, she has always had my back,” Sherri continues.

She too will be making an announcement soon about her next position in TV, but she won’t say anything about it right now. Sherri wraps up her beautiful speach with “I love yous” for everyone on The View and each and every one of the people who tuned in for the show to see her.

Meanwhile, word online has it that Sherri has been fired because she was considered replaceable with someone who would bring in better ratings. Jenny, on the other hand, was never supposed to come back after her first season, as producers saw she did not manage to impress viewers in a positive way, as they had hoped.
