Though not conventionally handsome, if you’re a true fan, you can’t deny that Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the hottest actors working right now. He has gorgeous features, a lean, athletic body, and a voice that can charm the pants off anyone who’s listening.

To boot, he’s also incredibly talented and versatile, which makes him one of the most in-demand actors right now.

Things were slightly different when he was first cast as Sherlock Holmes in BBC One’s modern “Sherlock.” By “slightly,” I obviously mean “completely.”

As producer Sue Vertue tells Entertainment Weekly in the latest issue, which is meant to promote the premiere of the third season of the series in the US (it’s already aired in the UK, to astounding success), when the first reactions came in about Sherlock, they weren’t positive at all.

To put it differently, no one thought Benedict was hot back then. In fact, people reached out to producers to let them know they felt deceived by the show because they’d been promised a handsome actor and, instead, they got the alien-looking Cumberbatch.

That was, of course, before they fell in love with his acting and became accustomed to his particular brand of beauty.
