LCD monitor producers are determined to take down every record and after achieving the fastest response time ever, 4 milliseconds, it was time for new records to be set.

Sharp focused on the contrast rate and has announced the introduction of the Sharp ASV Premium monitor which has a 1.000.000:1 value for that parameter.

The contrast rate measures the difference between the lightest and the darkest color displayed. As this value increases, the black color will be displayed as black, not some shades of gray, which means the image quality will not be affected when the monitor is exposed to strong lighting.

Typical contrast rates found in LCD monitors are 250:1, 500:1, 800:1 and even 1000:1.

The Sharp ASV Premium has a diagonal of 37 inches, and supports a resolution of up to 1920x1080 pixels; the luminosity is 500 cd/m2. This model is targeted at professionals working in the movie and television industry.

Sharp hasn't announced yet the estimated retail price for this monitor.
