14 DAY TRIAL // We all love to watch the latest movies in HD, but we need a pretty good TV in order to do so. And since not all customers are ready and willing to fork out some pretty serious amounts of cash in order to purchase a high-end LCD display, the Japanese division of Sharp has decided to upgrade its line of mid-range LCD TVs and launched three new AQUOS D LCD models, which include some features generally encountered in the case of high-end versions, namely an 120 Hz refresh rate and support for 1080p resolutions.
Thus, according to the company, the three new 32-inch, 37-inch and 42-inch displays, which come in either red, black or silver casings, provide 1,920 x 1,080 (a.k.a. 1080p) resolutions as well as a brightness level of 430 cd/square meter and a contrast ratio of around 2000:1 (although the dynamic contrast ratio, of around 900:1, is actually the most important). Moreover, they also offer some pretty good viewing angles, namely 176 degrees on both horizontal and vertical directions.
The TV sets also come packed with a wide assortment of connectivity options, including here HDMI v1.3 (obviously), S-Video, Composite video, DVI, iLINK, digital audio, RS232C and even an Ethernet port. Moreover, the panels incorporate a rather OK sound system as well, with 2 x 5.5-cm speakers, 2 x 2 cm speakers and an amplifier capable of delivering 10 W on 2 channels.
Although they use LCD technology, these things are by no means light or small. Thus, the 42 inch version measures around 102 cm x 31.4 cm x 73.4 cm, at a weight of around 27.5 kilos, the 37 inch model measures 91.3 cm x 29.7 cm x 67.2 cm, at a weight of around 21.5 kilos, while the 32 incher measures 78.6 x 29.7 x 60.6 cm, while weighing around 18.5 kilograms.
The new 32-, 37- and 42-inch AQUOS D LCD models will probably be available in the first half of October for around 260,000 Yen ($2,289), 300,000 Yen ($2,642) and 370,000 Yen ($3,258) respectively, which is a little better than the higher end LCDs, which retail for a lot more.
