Three separate viewing angles = 3 separate screens in one

Sharp has announced today its new Triple Directional Viewing LCD, an interesting solution that can show three different video signals in three different angles (left, right, center) at the same time. A couple of years ago, Sharp introduced the double-angle LC at CES, but this technology did not quite materialize on a large scale.

The new technology uses Sharp's proprietary parallax barrier integrated in a standard TFT LCD, allowing the screen to split light in three different directions. This technology may come in handy for multipurpose signs as LCDs could display three different ads, each aimed at people walking in a certain direction. Sharp also imagines a van scenario. The driver can use a car navigation system and the front passenger may check tourist sites and restaurants, while a person in the back can watch a DVD movie or play on a console. Or imagine watching a full-screen movie at the office, while your boss rests assured you are hard at work. And if you think a little, many other ingenious scenarios may come to mind.

Sharp is always looking to improve LCD performance factors such as contrast rates and viewing angles. Sharp is known for innovative technologies integrated in HDTVs, notebook PCs and mobile phones. The two-way viewing-angle LCD and the switchable viewing-angle LCD are already integrated in high-end navigation systems and mobile phones. As the world's leading LCD manufacturer, Sharp is meeting consumer needs by expanding its lineup and developing new and convenient uses for controlled viewing-angle LCDs.
