Shailene Woodley is promoting her latest movie, the young adult-oriented “The Fault in Our Stars,” which comes out on June 22, with an appearance on David Letterman. As was to be expected, Letterman didn’t let her leave without talking about her out of the ordinary beauty habits first.

If you’re a fan of this particular actress, you probably know that she believes strongly in living a life as natural as possible, in sunning her nether regions to get vitamin D inside her as well (quite literally so), in not washing her hair more often than once a month, and in eating clay daily.

As you can see in the video below, while on Letterman, Shailene stressed that she was not joking about the eating clay part and even explained how she did it and what the benefits on the body were supposed to be.

She eats about a spoonful a day, using clay instead of toothpaste, which she swallows after she’s done with it. She says the clay isn’t absorbed in the body but binds with heavy metals and toxics, which are eliminated with it when you go number 2 in the bathroom.

Letterman’s reaction is somewhere between amused and appalled, so Shailene keeps repeating that she’s “not joking, look it up.” I don’t know if she managed to convince at least one member of that audience.
