In case you didn't know, Shailene Woodley, one of the up-and-coming young stars in Hollywood, is a very passionate environmentalist, and one that doesn't like to take things for granted but enjoys experimenting with eco-friendly products on her own body.

In a recent interview with Into the Gloss, the actress that's being billed as the next Jennifer Lawrence, opens up about some of her more unusual habits she's picked up along the years, in her extensive research of alternative foods and medicines.

The first thing she swears by is clay, which apparently has the very unique power to cleanse your body of heavy metals. After hearing from an African taxi driver that the pregnant women in his country eat clay, the actress tried it herself and now she claims she eats it regularly to cleanse herself and get rid of negative isotopes.

“So, I've discovered that clay is great for you because your body doesn’t absorb it, and it apparently provides a negative charge, so it bonds to negative isotopes. And, this is crazy: it also helps clean heavy metals out of your body,” Shailene reveals.

Another one of her beauty secrets is sunning her private regions in an effort to combat vitamin D deficiency. “If you’re feeling depleted, go in the sun for an hour and see how much energy you get. Or, if you live in a place that has heavy winters, when the sun finally comes out, spread your legs and get some sunshine,” the actress advises readers.

Woodley also opens up about her hair, which she calls “horse hair” because it's low maintenance. She claims she's inherited it from her mom and she doesn't mess with it too much. “the less I put in it, the better. I only shampoo it like once a month—the oilier, the better.”

Her entire beauty routine includes some other odd practices, like gargling sesame or coconut oil every morning, because she says that it's the only thing that will fight the plaque on your teeth. “It’s amazing! It really makes your teeth whiter, because the plaque on your teeth is not water soluble, it’s fat-soluble. So the lipids have to dissolve in fats, which is why oil works in your mouth. I prefer sesame oil, but they’re both good.”

So if you want to try out something new and natural, you should consider trying some of the recipes described in this article by Shailene, who is a self-confessed herbalist nut and who had done some serious studies in this field before she came up with some of these beauty secrets.
