A sequel to the massively successful Shadow Complex is just a matter of time, but don't expect the original game to appear on mobile phones, according to its developer, Chair Entertainment.

Shadow Complex was a runaway hit, despite appearing only on the Xbox Live Arcade, and quickly conquered many gamers with its so-called 2.5D gameplay, in the vein of classic side-scrolling shooters like Nintendo's Metroid.

Seeing how popular the original became, many are already asking its developer, Chair, if a sequel is in the works.

According to studio representative Donald Mustard, a second game is just a matter of time and the whole team has plenty of cool ideas for a successor.

"I'll put it this way. More Shadow Complex isn't a question of if, it's a question of when," Mustard said. "Shadow Complex is our baby and we love it dearly and, y'know, we're working on some cool stuff [in general]. That's all I can say."

During his interview with Eurogamer, the Chair representative also talked about a possible adaptation of Shadow Complex for mobile devices like the iPhone, largely because Chair's last project, the iPhone exclusive Infinity Blade, went on to sell a huge amount of copies.

"I still cannot think of a way that we'd be able to bring over the precision controls [to touchscreen devices] that Shadow Complex needs to be amazing," he said. "Shadow Complex is designed for a controller. I'm not a fan of trying to shoehorn console controls onto touch screens. They don't feel right. You just lose so much precision."

Plenty of classic console games are being adapted these days for mobile phones, with varied degrees of success, largely due to the lack of actual physical controls.

Given how successful both Shadow Complex and Infinity Blade became, and how the company's owner, Epic Games, wants to develop even other new properties, expect to see more projects coming from Chair Entertainment.
