Via Dell

Sex sells... And sex sells Windows, lots of it. U.S. computer manufacturer Dell is not shy even in the least in implementing "strong" marketing techniques in order to get its new line of XPS notebooks off the shelves. And I don't know about you, but I suddenly got the urge to go buy some Dell products. And a XPS notebook doesn't look half bad, from where I'm standing. But then again it is just a matter of perspective, isn't it?

The models participated at the launch of the XPS notebooks in Korea, and the pictures are courtesy of I4U. Now I don't speak a lot of Korean, but visiting the DELL Korea website and making my way to the product page featuring an XPS M1210 notebook I couldn't help but see the Windows XP Home SP2 reference. The bottom line is that Dell is going to a whole lot of trouble to sell Windows XP together with XPS notebooks in Korea. The computer manufacturer has failed to design similar "innovative and creative" marketing performances in the United States, or anywhere in the world for that matter. Would the fact that Dell is offering Vista with the XPS notebooks outside of Korea have anything to do with it?

Because Windows Vista just does not seem like a priority to Dell. The longtime Microsoft partner made sure that its customers are happy and offered the XP alongside Vista. But no girls. Dell won't be able to offer XP for much more as Direct OEM and Retail License Availability end date is a little over six months away on January 31, 2008.

However, the computer maker has an alternative, the Ubuntu distribution of Linux. Just as long as it is offering some form of diversity and an alternative to Windows Vista. Because Dell has really given 100% to Vista, no models were involved, but the company did perform the mother of all Vista features comparisons across the main editions! With such partners, Microsoft just doesn't need Ubuntu or Apple...
