"Saturday Night Live" writer and future "Late Night" host Seth Meyers has gotten engaged to his girlfriend of several years, Alexi Ashe.

According to Us Weekly, Ashe works as a lawyer in Manhattan and the couple couldn't be any happier.

39-year-old Meyers proposed to Ashe recently, and the bride-to-be accepted. A source revealed that the pair were considering marriage all the way back in 2011.

"They are incredibly solid," the source said at the time.

"He's very excited for the next phase of his life. [...] He's known that she's The One for a while, but it was all about timing," the insider adds.

The proposal comes as the comedian finishes his contract with "Saturday Night Live." He reportedly wants to have time to spend with his future wife.

Being on "Late Night" will guarantee that he works fewer hours and they get to spend more time together.

"With 'Late Night,' his schedule will be slowly easing up. [...] He wanted to do it after "SNL" wrapped [because] he didn't want to be an absentee fiance. Her family loves him," the source notes.

As we mentioned, Meyers will be taking up Jimmy Fallon's spot, as the latter heads up to headline "The Tonight Show" next year. The announcement was made after several rumors about Jay Leno's replacement popped up.

"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation. His years at SNL's ‘Weekend Update' desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the 'Late Night' franchise.

"On behalf of Steve Burke, Ted Harbert and Paul Telegdy, we couldn't be happier that Seth and Jimmy Fallon will be continuing their careers at NBC after growing up in this network's late night legacy," NBC president Bob Greenblatt’s statement reads, as conveyed by E!.
