A new Microsoft tool for customers looking to become WebMatrix hosting providers is designed to streamline the evaluation of their server infrastructure.

ServerValidator works on both x86 and x64 architectures and is available as a free download from the Redmond company.

As the official label of the download implies, ServerValidator is set up to make sure that potential WebMatrix hosting providers fulfill a checklist of requirements.

Companies can simply turn to ServerValidator in order to ensure whether their server are configured properly in accordance with the requirements associated with becoming a WebMatrix hosting provider.

“ServerValidator is a general-purpose tool which can be used in your own server provisioning workflow to determine if the right components are installed.

“ServerValidator ships with a sample input file which checks for WebMatrix-specific requirements, but you can change the input file to suit your own needs and run your own validations,” revealed Microsoft’s Bilal Aslam.

The software giant is offering a collection of resources focused on helping customers join the Web Hosting Gallery (with WebMatrix support).

According to the Redmond company, this is the best place to start for those that want to become WebMatrix hosting partners.

In addition, they also need to run ServerValidator in their environment. But in this regard, customers need to keep in mind that using ServerValidator outside of the Web Hosting Gallery program is not supported, and that they won’t be able to get help from Microsoft Customer Support Services.

Aslam detailed the steps necessary to run ServerValidator, once the tool is downloaded.

“ The ServerValidator ZIP file comes with a sample configuration file, WebMatrixValidation.xml, which contains validation checks for WebMatrix support. You can run ServerValidatorUI with this file to start with to get a feel for what the tool does.

Open the folder where you unzipped ServerValidator

Right-click ServerValidatorUI.exe and click "Run as Administrator". This is required for several of the validations to succeed because they require elevated privileges on your server.

Inspect the results in the UI.”
