In tandem with the 2010-003 Security Update for Mac OS X, Apple has rolled out Server Admin Tools 10.6.3, a package that contains remote administration tools, documentation, and utilities that you can install on a Mac other than your server. This release is to be applied on systems running Mac OS X v10.6.3 Snow Leopard, and is required to administer Mac OS X Server v10.6.3 remotely.

“This download contains remote administration tools, documentation, and utilities that you can install on a computer other than your server,” Apple states on its website. “The Server Admin Tools update is recommended for remote administration of Snow Leopard Server,” Cupertino adds, revealing that the software includes the latest releases of: iCal Server Utility; Podcast Composer; Server Admin; Server Monitor; Server Preferences; System Image Utility; Workgroup Manager; and Xgrid Admin.

A Support document details the various changes included in this update. According to Apple, Server Admin Tools 10.6.3 eliminates delays in Server Admin on an IPv6 network, and adds the NetBoot/NetInstall model filter for iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) computers, for Server Admin. Other changes are listed as well.

System Image Utility fixes include a resolved issue that could generate the message “Catalog file is too fragmented for restore” when creating a NetRestore image from a volume. Additionally, “You can now create a NetRestore image that includes a package such as iTunes, which would previously prevent the new disk image from being unmounted during creation,” Apple reveals. An issue that could cause a user's primary shortname to be changed when adding or editing additional shortnames has been fixed for those who use Workgroup Manager.

In usual manner, Server Admin Tools 10.6.3 also includes improvements first delivered in Server Admin Tools 10.6.2. For the entire list of enhancements, see the Apple Support document in question.
