Server Admin Tools contain remote administration tools, documentation, and utilities that you can install on a computer other than your server. With the release of version 10.5.5, the tools add the ability to correctly enable and show the status of RADIUS or Kerberos authentication for the PPTP VPN service. Also included in the update is a fix to the System Image Utility Add Packages and Post-Install Scripts action (when creating a NetInstall image from a volume).

Apple's Support section reveals that  Server Admin Tools 10.5.5 include all the improvements in Server Admin Tools 10.5.3. The following elements are new additions, included with the latest version of the software.

Server Admin - According to the Cupertino-based Mac maker, Server Admin can now correctly enable and show the status of RADIUS or Kerberos authentication for the PPTP VPN service. Also, RADIUS service now reliably displays the primary IP address for 802.11n-enabled AirPort Base Stations. Lastly,  Server Admin can now sort by Value in the Zones tab of the DNS service.

As far as the System Image Utility goes, 10.5.5 fixes issues with certain options in the Apply System Configuration Settings action, including "Change ByHost settings", "Apply Computer Name and Local Hostname", and "Map clients to other directory servers". The Add Packages and Post-Install Scripts action now works correctly when creating a NetInstall image from a volume.

For Workgroup Manager, Apple has improved browsing, adding, and removing computers to or from a computer group.

The Server Administration Software installer package contains tools for remote server administration. These applications require Mac OS X version 10.5 or later. Apple notes that the Apple Xserve Diagnostics software is also available for diagnosing certain Xserve hardware issues, if you received this administration tools disc with an Xserve. Mac OS X Server includes onscreen help and a suite of orientation and administrative guides. The Documentation folder contains the Getting Started guide in PDF format.
