The organization is part owner of the marine park, expects its request will be met

In last year's April, green group PETA purchased several SeaWorld shares and became part owner of the marine park.

The organization is now trying to use its status to convince SeaWorld to send the marine mammals it keeps captive at its facilities to coastal sanctuaries.

On its website, the organization details that, when shareholders were asked to submit resolutions asking for policy changes, PETA was quick to file a demand that the marine park quit abusing animals.

“Last year when SeaWorld stock went public, PETA became shareholders so that we could attend and speak at annual meetings and submit shareholders resolutions asking for policy changes. And that's what we're doing,” PETA writes.

“Confining orcas to tanks that can be measured in gallons is not scientifically or ethically acceptable. SeaWorld's small cement pools cannot begin to meet the needs of these intelligent, social, long-lived, and large-bodied animals,” it stresses.

The organization maintains that, should they be transferred to coastal sanctuaries, the whales would finally get to enjoy the life that they deserve.
