Guns that are made of plastic don't get picked up by metal detectors, which is a problem

3D printing became a worldwide phenomenon fast and, sadly, gun makers were all too quick to create plans for 3D-printed firearms. Now, it's gotten so bad that New York senator Chuck Schumer wants them banned.

No real incidents happened so far, but there is a real problem with 3D-printed guns because they're made of plastic parts.

And since plastic doesn't get picked up by metal detectors at airports and the like, 3D printed guns are a serious threat to security.

The Democrat, along with Senators Patrick Leahy of Vermont and Bill Nelson of Florida, wants to ensure it's impossible for 3D-printed guns to proliferate. Already plans for a weapon of this sort were downloaded 100,000 times.

To be fair, the few 3D-printed guns I covered in the past usually came with metal pin and trigger, for the sole purpose of being detected by scanners, but I can definitely see ill-meaning people deliberately choosing against doing the same.
