The new technique involves taking a location-lapse video

The word “selfie” is a pretty well-known term for basically anyone of us who has a smartphone or a tablet. But what about “donut selfie,” anyone?

The term is pretty new, actually it made a debut just a few hours ago courtesy of a user bored with the normal ways of selfie-talking.

Karen X. Cheng is the person behind this new way of expressing self-love, which involves taking a video of yourself that uses a panoramic technique to create a perpetual, never-ending selfie image across multiple locations.

And the best part is that all you need to do it is your phone. In the video created by Cheng, you can see how she instantly travels from one place to another, in a continuous succession of moments.

To take a donut selfie, you'll need to use your smartphone’s frontal camera to shoot a video from one side of your head to the other, but make sure to include some of the scenery in the background as well. This aspect will come in handy when you make the transition between one frame to the next.

It’s pretty obvious why the technique was named after a donut, given the circular nature of the selfie-taking act. If you want to create one of you own, Cheng has a tutorial composed of three videos where she teaches you the basics. Go watch them and get to work!
