Selena Gomez’s publicist has denied that she went to rehab at the beginning of the year because of her alcohol issues and didn’t complete the 30-day program because she wanted to attend a film festival. However, this isn’t stopping rumors on her dire “state” from making the rounds.

The latest in the print issue of Star magazine (story via The Hollywood Gossip) claims that Selena is on the verge of a very serious breakdown. Think Britney Spears serious.

Apparently, when she went to rehab, she went because she’d realized her life had gotten completely off the rails. So, when she checked out after a few days, she walked out with the same problems she checked into, problems she’s still struggling with as we speak.

“It’s not humanly possible to recover from your rock bottom that quickly. She’s still very fragile and not coping with her problems at all,” says an insider.

Those problems would be her very destructive relationship with fellow pop star Justin Bieber and everything it lead to, including increased alcohol and marijuana consumption, and an unhealthy love of non-stop partying.

The insider also claims that Selena probably has some mental problems as well, and that she could end up like Britney Spears who, some years ago, went through a much mediated breakdown that saw her shave her head, attack a paparazzo with an umbrella, and have several episodes of crying or talking to herself in the streets.

Eventually, her father stepped in and assumed control over everything in her life, from her finances to her personal life. To this day, Britney is under conservatorship.

“She’s jabbering to herself, and everyone is worried she’s about to pull a Britney,” the insider says of Selena. “She’s a very troubled young girl, and if she doesn’t get it together, the psych ward could be next.”
