Part of a new offering from Dell

We know that systems vendors will do just about anything to draw the attention of potential customers, which is why Dell's latest initiative doesn't come as that much of a surprise, as it will basically provide users with more configuration options as compared with similar offerings from the company's competitors. As it turns out, Dell, after having recently announced its new 12-inch, Atom-powered netbook system, will be offering pre-loaded music and movies on select systems purchased through its own website.

Last week, the Round Rock, Texas-based systems vendor announced that it had partnered with Universal Music Group, the world's leading music company, to offer customers a new way in which to configure their Dell systems. As part of the newly introduced offering, the two companies have created 50 and 100-song music bundles that start at $25 and allow users to take advantage of a straight-out-of-the-box music library, upon purchasing a Dell computer system.

The same can be said about the deal between Dell and CinemaNow, as users will be able to choose from select movie titles to be bundled with certain Dell systems. The movie bundles start at $25, and include successful titles such as the Spider-Man trilogy, the Matrix trilogy, the Fast and the Furious collection, which are completed by a Children's bundle, a Romantic Comedy bundle and a Comedy bundle.

In addition to announcing the new offerings for its computer systems, the company also mentioned that the pre-loaded music and movies could easily be accessed through the Dell Dock, where users would find a Music and a Movie icon.

All pre-loaded music titles come in a DRM-free MP3 format, allowing users to listen to their favorite titles on any software or hardware player they see fit. The movie titles are protected using Windows Media DRM, which allows them to be played on other Windows Media electronic devices.
