A modern and interactive music box. Or something.

Everyone loves music boxes, or so they say, at least. And since pretty much every toy from the past has been "updated" one way or the other and brought back to a new "technology-coherent" life, it was a question of when or how rather than a question of if. The new music box-like thing comes from Japan, from Sega to be more specific, and it is called the Livedream.

Now, don't think about ballerinas or anything from the "classic stock": we've already mentioned that we're talking "new technology" here and in the case of Livedream this tech-touch is represented by a miniature stage.

There is still a lot of doubt as far as the utility of such a gadget is concerned: you can place it somewhere around the room and use it from time to time, or you can give it to someone as an interesting gift; and he or she would also find a place for it. Or maybe you can set it on your desk in case you are a guy behind a very large and ultra-serious rock festival and this mini-stage could very well be some sort of "code of arms" speaking as a symbolic representation of what you do.

But since there are rather few people who organize rock festivals (at least compared to the planet's population), the wonder still remains. What to do with Sega's Livedream? The principle is almost fun: you start the Sega Livedream and choose a preset track like Purple Haze or Smoke on the Water and add in the instruments one by one. The funny thing is that the song will start with the instrument(s) you have placed on the stage and new lines will start the moment you add more pieces. The miniature instruments can also be removed from the stage, so you can play god in the rock band, pretty much like firing your bass-player, I guess.

Having said that, I would suggest watching this short video that explains pretty much everything there is to know about the Sega Livedream. This 445x210x245 mm stage comes with 3 colored lights, like the PAR ones on real stages and has a twin sister that will play Jazz tracks. You can see if the playlist for each version of the Livedream suits your preferences here and here. No word on price or availability yet, unfortunately.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
