The old version of Sonic won't be back for quite some time after Generations

Sega has made some rather interesting statements concerning its Sonic mascot, ahead of the release of the new Sonic Generations title, including the fact that it has no plans to bring back the classic Sonic look, despite lots of fans anticipating the upcoming game largely because that version of the hedgehog is in it.

Sonic Generations is set to be a proper celebration of the 20 years that have passed since the release of the first Sonic the Hedgehog game, and blends together both the adventures of the original Sonic, as well as of the blue hedgehog's newer version.

Sega, the company behind the series, has confirmed that Sonic Generations is the "most anticipated" game in the history of the franchise, so it's looking forward to make its launch, set to happen on November 1, in North America, and November 4, in Europe, a special event.

Sadly, while Generations is no doubt raising the interest among older fans of the series, Sega is quick to point out that fans shouldn't expect classic Sonic to make a return anytime soon, as his appearance in the new title is owed to the special anniversary of the series.

When asked by Spong about the chances of seeing a return of the old Sonic look, Sega's European brand manager David Corless was honest about the prospect.

"Do you know what? There are no plans, to be brutally honest, to bring Classic Sonic back," he said. "The reason for bringing him back for this game was because this is a celebration of 20 years of Sonic. It was a real fitting time to do it. He’s really well loved. Let’s see how Generations does. You can never say never in this industry, but at the moment there are no plans."

As you can see, it seems that fans shouldn't get too attached to classic Sonic. They can still experience the first Sonic the Hedgehog game with him, as it's included as a bonus unlockable in Generations.
