Some cybercriminals are not even trying that hard. One phone-based phishing attack spotted recently by experts starts with emails entitled “Secutiry Info.”

The emails identified by Hoax Slayer purport to come from a technical services department and they inform recipients that their accounts might be suspended.

“Our technical security services department has notified an error on your account, which may lead to your account suspension. For you to gain access back to your account. you are required to call us now at the folowing number: [Number] You will be asked to validate your card information,” the emails read.

This is actually a fairly clever phishing scam. Instead of needing servers to store the stolen information, the crooks can harvest personal and financial details directly over the phone.

If you come across such emails, make sure to ask your IT department if it’s legitimate before calling the number. If you’re already a victim of this scam, take appropriate measures to prevent your information from being misused.

Depending on what information you’ve handed over, these measures include changing passwords and keeping an eye on your bank account. If fraudulent transactions are detected quickly, the money can be recovered.
